Focus for Day 23: Peace like a river
Main Bible reading: Mark 5:36 NKJV
The thing about the river is that it simply finds a way to go around or over obstacles. As we’re unleashed to transform our world, we pray for sufficient peace in doing so.
In our human nature, there are many issues and uncertainties that trouble us from time to time. We’re often times guilty of paying more attention to these issues over the promises God has for us in His word (the Bible) and His mandate for our lives (our destiny).
When people came to Jesus in great distress, He responded with words such as “Peace, be still” or “Be not afraid, only believe” (Mark 4:39; Mark 5:36)
Jesus also said John 14:27: “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.“
Prayer Point 1
Father, open our hearts to receive a fresh pouring of your peace for the journey ahead of us in this New Year.
Commitment to being unleashed for transformation can often be sapped by our varying, ever changing needs. In other lights, it’s sometimes very difficult to see beyond these needs. Jesus asked in Matthew 6:27: ”Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?“
Matthew 6:31-33: “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.“
Prayer Point 2
Father, we pray for the Grace to seek your Kingdom above every other need and experience your peace in doing so.
2 Cor 13:11 says “Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.”
Colossians 3:15: “And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.”
Peace should be one of our fragrance in this year and beyond. Isaac is commended for keeping peace when his Philistine neighbours plugged up his wells two separate times and threatened to drive him away. At least once in the last three weeks of this year so far you could’ve been subject to some form of unfair treatment.
Prayer Point 3
Let’s pray for the enablement, wisdom and grace to keep peace and live in peace with all men and women.
We do not give in to quarrelsome tendencies. Peace is our fragrance. The battle is not ours, it is the Lord‘s. Peace is our portion, we are a people of Peace.
Galatians 5:24: ”Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.“
Sometimes it’s the passions and desires of our sinful nature that undermine our ability to experience the peace God has promised us, also take for example our obsession with having things under control or executing one visions or the other. Remember the story of Martha?
Prayer Point 4
Father, help us to let go of any passion or desire of a sinful nature that is discounting the peace you have for us. We acknowledge that you nailed these to the cross and crucified them already.
Finally, Philippians 4:6-7 says, ”Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.“
Prayer Point 5
In this year and beyond, we will be fervent in praying and committing all we do, bringing everything we hope for to God.
We are no longer fasting, however daily 31/31 prayers continue. You are welcome to join us daily in the evening at 7:30pm for 31/31 prayers.
